Introduction
We are a Dunstable based registered charity, and our mission is to offer all members an opportunity to enhance their self-confidence, independence and provide an important social lifeline – reducing any isolation they may have previously experienced. We are an inclusive and informal friendly group, supporting diversity and equality, and are keen to invite new members to join us who may have additional needs, are disabled in any way or feel they lack communication / social skills. Our average age is anything from 19 to 90 years of age!
We meet every Friday evening at the Priory Church Hall in Dunstable Town Centre, 7pm – 9pm, and enjoy a variety of activities including:
*Laptop Tuition *Arts & Crafts *Card & Board Games *Book Club
We also organise regular quiz and bingo sessions, fish ‘n chip suppers, and interesting talks by guest speakers as well as local outings to the theatre and indoor bowling. Our most popular event is the annual group summer holiday which is organised on behalf of those members who wish to attend.
A brief history of our club
Our club was formed in 1968 by Ros and Reg Hayward MBE, a local couple who offered to teach typing to those with some form of disability. Initially known as the Dunstable Typing Club, its name changed over the years to become The Hayward Club in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
